We left no one hanging

We recently dismantled two overhead crane systems, each weighing approximately 25 tonnes, for SBB at a hydroelectric power plant. Each system consisted of a 12-ton hoist unit, a 10-ton crane bridge measuring 12 metres in length, and two 3-tonne trolleys.

As a first step, we positioned the Hubylift-75 and the support stands beneath the first overhead crane. The crane was then lifted, securely fixed onto auxiliary beams and the Hubylift, and properly strapped down. After a controlled lift of just a few centimetres, the hydraulic cylinders were protected with fire blankets. Once the oxy-fuel cutting work had been completed, we lowered the crane and transported it out of the building using the Hubylift.

We then dismantled the hoist unit and the two girders using our truck-mounted crane. The end carriages were also lifted out of the rails and removed from the hall, where all dismantled material was directly loaded for transport. Finally, the second overhead crane was dismantled using the same procedure.

This project in the Canton of Schwyz once again demonstrates that with the right technology, experience, and a well-coordinated team, even complex dismantling projects can be carried out safely, efficiently, and according to plan.
