We are used to moving the heaviest machines over several floors in the tightest of spaces. However, a 16-ton MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) machine with an active permanent magnet presents a unique challenge. But also these kind of projects are part of our daily routine.
The two-day assignment at the Hirslanden Clinic in Zurich began with moving the MRI below the shaft. Due to the tight space of this shaft, both the lifting structure and the extraction structure had to be specially designed for this job. The extraction through the shaft was carried out using chain hoists from the basement to the ground floor, and from there via heavy duty rollers, muscle power, and forklifts to the forecourt of the clinic. With our own truck crane, the MRI was loaded onto our trailer and transported to our heavy goods warehouse. The strong, still active permanent magnet required extra effort from our team, as various tools kept sticking to the MRI due to the strong magnetic effect.
